CANCELLED – Workshop: Life Appreciation Photography – Steve Balke
Photography enables us to recognize, enjoy and understand life around us. How to do this for lifeforms other than our own is the subject of this workshop. Birds and other animals, bugs, flowers, plants and trees are all included. Conventional Nature Photography stresses rigorous honesty in images and surreptitious observation of subjects. Life Appreciation Photography emphasizes images that evoke emotion and educate us, while preserving subject realism. Often lifeforms observe us as we observe them. Such communing with Nature has been extensively shown in studies to be beneficial to us in so many ways. Here we examine what images do evoke emotion; how to capture such images as we are surrounded by life in non-ideal photography situations (e.g.: while walking in the woods); how to use software to enhance the capabilities of our cameras; how to employ cell phones to identify what we are observing. Please bring to the workshop your cameras, your cell phones and your ideas about how to meet the challenges of Life Appreciation Photography. If you bring your computer (or tablet or cell phone) you can download notes for the session. Steve’s website is http://www.lifeappreciationphotography.com.
